This 1946 historical comedy stars Bob Hope as the resourceful barber to King Louis XV, caught in a tangled plot of royal intrigue and romance. Directed by George Marshall, the film follows Beaucaire's misadventures as he navigates court politics, forbidden love, and international diplomacy whilst attempting to secure a suitable match for the Spanish princess. Loosely adapted from Booth Tarkington's novel and reimagining the 1924 Valentino classic, the picture combines slapstick humour with swashbuckling action. When Beaucaire and his beloved chambermaid Mimi face exile, they must outwit a scheming general before finding refuge in the American Colonies. A charming period piece that showcases Hope's comedic timing against elaborate period settings and elaborate sword-fighting sequences. Public domain DVD without case.
