When a mysterious plague sweeps across America, the recently dead begin to rise as flesh-hungry zombies, and society quickly collapses into chaos. In Philadelphia, TV traffic reporter Stephen Andrews and his pregnant girlfriend Fran join two SWAT officers, Roger and Peter, in a desperate escape from the city aboard a stolen news helicopter.

Searching for safety, the group discovers a vast suburban shopping mall and decides to make it their refuge. With food, medicine and supplies in abundance, they barricade the entrances and begin building a new life inside. But the illusion of security cannot last forever. As the undead gather outside and tensions grow within, their sanctuary becomes increasingly fragile.

When a roaming biker gang breaks into the mall, unleashing hundreds of zombies back inside, the survivors are thrust into a brutal fight for survival. Trapped between the living and the dead, they must make one final escape in a world where the future of humanity is uncertain.
