Private detective Lou Peckinpaugh (Peter Falk) may not be the sharpest investigator in San Francisco, but when his partner is murdered, he finds himself caught in a wildly entertaining mystery filled with dangerous femmes fatales, eccentric suspects, double-crosses and a legendary missing treasure.
As Lou struggles to clear his name, he is drawn into a madcap chase involving priceless egg-shaped diamonds, mysterious murders, secret identities and an unforgettable cast of colourful characters. With every clue leading to another outrageous twist, the bumbling detective stumbles from one hilarious disaster to the next before an explosive showdown on the waterfront reveals the truth.
