BEYOND THE FOREST (1949) Bette Davis,Joseph Cotten - Public Domain DVD NO CASE
Beyond the Forest is a 1949 film noir directed by King Vidor. It stars Bette Davis, Joseph Cotten, David Brian, and Ruth Roman, and is based on a novel by Stuart Engstrand. The screenplay was written by Lenore Coffee. This was Davis's final film with Warner Studios, as she was under contract with them for eighteen years. Despite her efforts to leave the project, Warner refused to release her from her contract. Davis once described the film as "terrible" and her death scene as "the longest ever seen on screen." The story centers around Rosa Moline, the unsatisfied wife of a small-town doctor, who is looking for a more glamorous life in Chicago. She is having an affair with a local businessman, but when he announces his intention to marry another woman, Rosa's life begins to unravel. She resorts to desperate measures to try and escape her current circumstances, even resulting in murder.
