Ten years after the death of eccentric millionaire Cyrus Norman, a group of relatives gathers at his eerie Louisiana mansion for the reading of his will. Surrounded by dark bayous, hidden passages and tales of madness, the family soon discovers that inheriting Norman's fortune may come at a deadly price.

When young Joyce Norman is named sole heir, a sinister condition threatens her claim to the estate. As strange occurrences, secret doors and terrifying attacks begin to plague the mansion, suspicion falls on everyone present. Adding to the mystery is the escape of a notorious killer known only as "The Cat", who may be lurking within the house itself.

With danger around every corner and murder stalking the shadows, wisecracking Wally Campbell must unravel the mystery before Joyce loses both her inheritance and her life.

Blending comedy, suspense and old-dark-house thrills, The Cat and the Canary remains one of the most entertaining horror-comedies of Hollywood's Golden Age.
