A PRIZE OF GOLD (1955) Richard Widmark, Mai Zetterling, Nigel Patrick, George Cole - Public Domain Movie Disc only Free Post

Set amid the tension and uncertainty of post-war Berlin, A Prize of Gold is a gripping crime thriller that combines romance, suspense, and daring action in a classic Technicolor production.

Master Sergeant Joe Lawrence (Richard Widmark), an American Air Policeman stationed in occupied Germany, falls deeply in love with Maria, a compassionate woman devoted to caring for a group of war orphans. Desperate to help her provide a better future for the children, Joe becomes involved in a bold scheme to steal a fortune in recovered Nazi gold bullion being transported under military guard.

What begins as an opportunity to change lives soon spirals into a dangerous web of betrayal, greed, and murder. With the authorities closing in and his partners driven by conflicting motives, Joe must decide whether to follow his conscience or continue down a path that could destroy everything he holds dear.

Filmed partly on location in West Berlin and England, A Prize of Gold delivers suspenseful action, memorable performances, and a fascinating glimpse into the divided world of post-war Europe. Richard Widmark gives a powerful performance as a fundamentally decent man pushed toward crime by love and circumstance.

A thrilling blend of noir suspense, military drama, and romance, A Prize of Gold remains one of the most entertaining crime adventures of the 1950s.
