Deep within the fog-shrouded swamps of Lake Marsh, a series of mysterious disappearances has left authorities baffled. Rumours of a haunted mansion and strange creatures lurking in the darkness lead reporter Janet Lawton to investigate the truth for herself.

Her search brings her face to face with the brilliant but deranged Dr. Eric Vornoff (Bela Lugosi), a disgraced scientist obsessed with harnessing atomic power to create a race of superhuman beings. Assisted by the hulking giant Lobo (Tor Johnson) and protected by a deadly giant octopus, Vornoff conducts terrifying experiments on unwilling victims in his hidden laboratory.

As Janet becomes the scientist's latest captive, police detective Dick Craig races against time to uncover the truth before Vornoff's mad ambitions unleash unimaginable destruction. What follows is a thrilling battle of science gone wrong, monstrous creations and atomic-powered terror.
