Young Texas farm boy Karl Westover (Gary Busey) is forced to flee across the Mexican border after accidentally killing his brother-in-law. Alone and hunted by vengeful pursuers, Karl's fate changes when he encounters the legendary outlaw Barbarosa (Willie Nelson), a charismatic bandit whose exploits have made him a folk hero throughout the Southwest.

Taking the inexperienced Karl under his wing, Barbarosa teaches him the skills needed to survive on the run. As the unlikely pair travel across the rugged frontier, they face bounty hunters, rival outlaws and deadly family feuds while forging a friendship built on loyalty and mutual respect.

But Barbarosa carries burdens of his own. For years he has been pursued by the powerful Zavala family, whose patriarch seeks revenge for a violent encounter from the past. With every failed attempt on his life, Barbarosa's legend grows larger, inspiring songs, stories and admiration throughout the region.

As Karl matures into a capable man, the two companions find themselves drawn into one final confrontation that will determine whether Barbarosa remains a living legend or becomes part of frontier folklore forever.

A thoughtful and beautifully filmed Western adventure, Barbarosa combines action, humour and drama with memorable performances from Willie Nelson and Gary Busey. Widely regarded as one of the finest modern Westerns of the 1980s, it is a powerful tale of friendship, honour and the enduring spirit of the American frontier.
