Rebellious teenager Cindy “Cebe” Barnes (Linda Manz) struggles to survive a deeply troubled home life in rural British Columbia. With her father Don (Dennis Hopper) in prison and her mother Kathy (Sharon Farrell) unable to provide the stability she desperately needs, Cebe escapes into the music and attitude of her punk-rock heroes.
When Don is released and returns home, hopes of rebuilding the family quickly disappear. His drinking and increasingly destructive behaviour reopen old wounds, forcing Cebe to confront painful memories and the grim reality of her family life.
Directed by Dennis Hopper, Out of the Blue is a raw, uncompromising portrait of teenage alienation and dysfunctional family life, driven by Linda Manz’s remarkable central performance and a soundtrack featuring Neil Young.
