The inspiring true story of courage behind enemy lines.

Violette Bushell, the daughter of an English father and a French mother, is living in wartime London when she falls in love with French officer Etienne Szabo. After their marriage, tragedy strikes when Etienne is killed in action in North Africa, leaving Violette to raise their young daughter, Tania, alone.

Fluent in French and determined to help the war effort, Violette is recruited by Britain’s Special Operations Executive (SOE) and trained as a secret agent for dangerous missions in Nazi-occupied France. On her first operation, she works alongside Captain Tony Fraser to contact the French Resistance and sabotage a key railway viaduct vital to the German war effort.

Returning to Britain after the successful mission, Violette is soon sent back to France. But during a fierce encounter with German forces, she is wounded and captured. Despite harsh interrogation and imprisonment, she refuses to reveal any information that could endanger her fellow agents.

Eventually transported to a concentration camp with two other captured agents, Violette faces her fate with extraordinary bravery.

After the war, her sacrifice and heroism are honoured when her daughter receives the George Cross from King George VI on her behalf — a lasting tribute to one of Britain’s most courageous wartime heroines.
