DIRKIE (1968) - Starring - Wynand Uys • Jamie Uys • Pieter Hauptfleisch - PUBLIC DOMAIN - COLOUR - DVD ONLY NO CASE

The incredible story of a boy’s will to live.

Eight-year-old Dirkie DeVries is flying across the vast Kalahari Desert with his Uncle Pete and his faithful little dog when disaster strikes. After Pete suffers a heart attack at the controls, their small aircraft crashes deep in the unforgiving wilderness. Pete dies, leaving Dirkie and his dog completely alone.

With scorching days, freezing nights and dangerous wildlife surrounding him, Dirkie must summon extraordinary courage and ingenuity simply to stay alive. An encounter with a Bushman and his son briefly offers hope, but a tragic misunderstanding sends Dirkie wandering even deeper into the desert.

Meanwhile, Dirkie’s father, concert pianist Anton DeVries, refuses to abandon hope. As an enormous search operation fails to locate the missing boy, Anton risks everything he owns and eventually heads into the Kalahari himself, determined to bring his son home.

A moving survival adventure about courage, determination and a father’s refusal to give up on his child.
