One woman. One missing husband. One ruthless killer. A deadly chase through the dark streets of San Francisco!
Starring Ann Sheridan, Dennis O'Keefe and Robert Keith, Woman on the Run is a gripping 1950 film noir thriller packed with murder, mystery, deception and nail-biting suspense. When struggling artist Frank Johnson accidentally witnesses the cold-blooded murder of a key witness in a criminal investigation, he suddenly finds himself the target of a ruthless killer. Realising that his life is in immediate danger, Frank escapes police protection and disappears into the streets of San Francisco, leaving behind his estranged wife Eleanor, who knows surprisingly little about her husband's secretive life. Determined to find Frank before either the police or the murderer reaches him, Eleanor reluctantly begins searching for clues to his whereabouts. Along the way, she encounters charming newspaper reporter Danny Legget, who offers to help track down her missing husband. But as the investigation leads through shadowy nightclubs, deserted streets, waterfront locations and mysterious encounters, Eleanor begins to realise that nothing is quite what it seems. As she uncovers the hidden details of Frank's life, her feelings towards her husband begin to change, and their troubled marriage takes on an entirely new meaning. With danger closing in from every direction, Eleanor follows a final desperate clue to a seaside amusement park, where a terrifying confrontation unfolds beneath the flashing lights of a roller coaster. Directed by Norman Foster, this atmospheric crime thriller brilliantly captures the dark, suspenseful world of classic American film noir, combining striking location photography, sharp dialogue and outstanding performances. A forgotten gem of 1950s cinema, filled with unexpected twists, mounting tension and a breathtaking climax that will keep you guessing until the very end!
