Rome was never this funny!
In ancient Rome, crafty slave Pseudolus wants just one thing—his freedom. When his young master Hero falls hopelessly in love with the beautiful Philia, Pseudolus strikes a bargain: if he can bring the young lovers together, Hero will set him free.
Unfortunately, Philia has already been promised to the fearsome Roman warrior Miles Gloriosus. What follows is an increasingly outrageous mixture of mistaken identities, elaborate disguises, scheming slave traders, romantic misunderstandings and frantic attempts to keep the formidable Gloriosus from discovering the truth.
Soon practically everyone in Rome is caught up in Pseudolus's plans, culminating in a spectacular comic chase as his carefully constructed deceptions begin collapsing around him.
Based on the celebrated Broadway musical, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum is a colourful, fast-moving musical farce directed by Richard Lester, featuring music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and an outstanding comedy cast.
