Chicago, 1934. Arthur Parker is a struggling sheet-music salesman trapped in an unhappy marriage and desperate to escape the grim realities of the Great Depression. While his everyday world is filled with disappointment and financial hardship, Arthur dreams of a life as glamorous and romantic as the popular songs he sells.

When he meets lonely schoolteacher Eileen Everson, Arthur believes he may finally have found the happiness he has always imagined. Their passionate affair sets them both on a dangerous path, as fantasy and reality become increasingly difficult to separate.

Blending romance, drama, dark humour and spectacular musical fantasy sequences, Pennies from Heaven is an unusual and visually striking musical in which the characters lip-sync and dance to classic recordings from the 1920s and 1930s.
