Caged Heat, released in 1974, is an American women-in-prison film that was written and directed by Jonathan Demme for New World Pictures. Starring Juanita Brown, Roberta Collins, Erica Gavin, Ella Reid, Rainbeaux Smith, and Barbara Steele, the film also features a soundtrack by John Cale and Mike Bloomfield. Though later films used the same name and premise, they are not connected to the original. Set in Los Angeles, the plot follows Jacqueline Wilson, who is sentenced to 40 years in prison for drug possession and attempted murder. Inside the correctional facility, she navigates through the oppressive control of Superintendent McQueen and forms alliances with her fellow inmates, including Belle and Pandora. As tensions rise, the women plan a daring escape that involves a mix of manipulation, violence, and betrayal. As the prison officers close in, the women must confront their pasts and make difficult decisions in order to achieve their freedom.
