In the ruthless world of 1950s Manhattan nightlife, ambitious press agent Sidney Falco will do almost anything to win the favour of powerful newspaper columnist J.J. Hunsecker.
When the controlling Hunsecker orders Sidney to break up the relationship between his younger sister Susan and jazz musician Steve Dallas, Sidney becomes trapped in an increasingly vicious campaign of manipulation, lies and betrayal. As reputations are destroyed and loyalties tested, Sidney discovers just how dangerous it can be to serve a man whose influence reaches everywhere.
