The Honeymoon Killers is a 1970 American crime film, written and directed by Leonard Kastle, that tells the story of an overweight nurse who falls for a charming con man and becomes his accomplice in a string of murders targeting single women. Inspired by the infamous "lonely hearts killers" of the 1940s, the film was shot in Pittsfield, Massachusetts, with Martin Scorsese originally at the helm before being replaced by Donald Volkman and then Kastle himself. The movie has since gained a devoted following and earned praise from renowned French filmmaker François Truffaut, who called it his favorite American film. It was restored and released on DVD by The Criterion Collection in 2003 and again in 2015 with a new digital transfer. The plot follows Martha Beck, a Nursing Administrator from Alabama, who responds to a "lonely hearts" ad and begins a passionate relationship with Ray Fernandez of New York City.
