Released in the US on September 28, 1990, the film received mixed reviews from critics. The plot follows Carter Hayes and Ann Miller, who are violently attacked one night. As unmarried couple Drake Goodman and Patty Palmer move into an expensive Victorian house in the exclusive Pacific Heights neighborhood, they rent an apartment to the Watanabes. Hayes shows interest in another empty apartment and pays upfront with a wire transfer. However, he starts causing problems and refuses to leave the building. Despite attempts to evict him, Hayes stays and infests the house with cockroaches, causing the other tenants to move out. With their finances and relationship strained, Drake and Patty turn to a lawyer for help.
