Blue Velvet, released in 1986, is an American neo-noir mystery thriller directed by David Lynch and starring Charlie Sheen and Winona Ryder. Set in a suburban town, it follows a college student who discovers a severed human ear, leading him to uncover a dark criminal conspiracy involving a troubled lounge singer. Despite initial mixed reviews, the film has since been recognized as one of Lynch's greatest works and a cult classic. It also helped revitalize the careers of actors Dennis Hopper and Isabella Rossellini. In 2008, it was named one of the top ten American mystery films by the American Film Institute.
