Jack Lemmon stars in this sophisticated comedy classic as Stanley Ford, a wealthy New York cartoonist whose carefree bachelor lifestyle comes to an abrupt end after a drunken night leaves him unexpectedly married to a glamorous Italian beauty. As his orderly world is turned upside down by married life, Stanley channels his frustrations into his popular comic strip, creating a story in which his fictional hero devises the perfect way to murder his wife.

When Stanley's wife suddenly disappears shortly after the comic strip is published, fantasy and reality collide in spectacular fashion. With the comic strip serving as damning evidence, Stanley finds himself on trial for murder and forced to defend himself against a case that grows more outrageous by the minute.
