When Princess Margaret flees her royal duties to marry the man she loves, her plans are thrown into chaos when ruthless pirates attack her ship and capture everyone on board. Also caught up in the mayhem is Sylvester the Great, a timid travelling entertainer whose courage falls far short of his grand stage name.

Mistaken identities, hidden treasure maps, daring escapes, pirate battles, and plenty of comic mishaps follow as Sylvester finds himself battling bloodthirsty buccaneers, corrupt governors, and danger on every side. With the fate of a kingdom, a fortune in buried treasure, and the heart of a princess at stake, the unlikely hero must somehow find the courage to save the day.

Filled with spectacular adventure, colourful characters, and Bob Hope's trademark wit, The Princess and the Pirate remains one of Hollywood's most entertaining comedy adventures. The film received Academy Award nominations for Best Art Direction and Best Music Score and features a memorable supporting cast including Walter Brennan, Victor McLaglen, Walter Slezak, and a special appearance by Bing Crosby.
