Waterfront Women (1950) is a British drama film directed by Michael Anderson, starring Robert Newton, Kathleen Harrison, and Avis Scott. This film, based on John Brophy's 1934 novel, follows the story of ship's fireman Peter McCabe's family and the struggles they face in a Liverpool slum. When McCabe unexpectedly returns after 14 years, his presence causes turmoil for his long-suffering wife and their children. Meanwhile, a romance blossoms between Nora, McCabe's daughter, and Ben, an engineer who has lost his job due to an economic slump. As events unfold, the family discovers shocking secrets and faces unexpected challenges. With a talented cast, including a young Richard Burton, Waterfront Women is a poignant and thought-provoking look at family, love, and the harsh realities of life on the waterfront.
