During the Napoleonic Wars, British naval officer Captain Anthony Trumbull (Cary Grant) is sent to Spain to recover a massive siege cannon before it falls into French hands. But fiery guerrilla leader Miguel (Frank Sinatra) insists the weapon first be used to help liberate the fortified city of Ávila from the occupying French army.
As the enormous cannon is hauled across mountains, rivers, and enemy territory, tensions rise between the two men — especially over the beautiful Juana (Sophia Loren). Packed with spectacle, action, romance, and epic battle scenes, this classic adventure builds to a thrilling assault on the walls of Ávila.
