SYNOPSIS:
John Travolta stars as Buford "Bud" Davis, a young Texas cowboy who moves to Pasadena in search of work and a better future. By day he works at an oil refinery, but by night he discovers the excitement of Gilley's, a legendary honky-tonk nightclub filled with country music, dancing, romance and mechanical bull riding.
At Gilley's, Bud meets the spirited and independent Sissy (Debra Winger), and their passionate romance quickly leads to marriage. However, their happiness is threatened by jealousy, stubborn pride and conflicting ambitions. When Sissy develops a friendship with the dangerous ex-convict Wes Hightower (Scott Glenn), their marriage begins to unravel.
Determined to prove himself, Bud enters a high-stakes mechanical bull-riding competition, while both he and Sissy struggle to understand what truly matters in their relationship. As rivalry, heartbreak and tragedy unfold, Bud must decide whether his pride is worth losing the woman he loves.
Packed with unforgettable country music, thrilling rodeo action and powerful performances, Urban Cowboy is a classic 1980s romantic drama that captures the spirit of Texas nightlife and the enduring power of love.
