STORMY MONDAY (1988) is a neo-noir thriller directed and written by Mike Figgis. The film stars Melanie Griffith, Sean Bean, Tommy Lee Jones, and Sting, and features an Irishman caught in a plot to take over a jazz club. Composer Figgis also created the jazz score. The film was shot in Newcastle upon Tyne in 1987 and is named after blues musician T-Bone Walker's signature song. After encountering an American woman, the Irishman named Brendan meets the jazz-loving club owner Mr. Finney who hires him and sets him on a dangerous path. As Brendan and Kate go on a date, he overhears a plan to kill Finney to take over the club. He warns Finney and is rewarded with a Jaguar. At an "America Week" festival, Kate's boss fires her and they discover a plot against them. In the end, Finney destroys the contract and the villains are defeated.
