Set against the turbulent backdrop of the Great Depression, Bertha Thompson is left alone after the tragic death of her father. Taking to the rails, she falls in love with charismatic union organiser Big Bill Shelly and soon finds herself drawn into a dangerous life outside the law.

Joined by gambler Rake Brown and former railroad worker Von Morton, Bertha and Bill become notorious fugitives after a series of robberies brings them into direct conflict with a ruthless railway company. With the authorities closing in and their enemies determined to destroy them, their rebellious fight for survival heads toward a brutal confrontation.

Directed by Martin Scorsese and produced by Roger Corman, Boxcar Bertha is a gritty Depression-era mixture of crime, romance and outlaw drama.
