Haunted by the traumatic death of a patient, New York psychologist Dr. Bill Capa (Bruce Willis) travels to Los Angeles to stay with his friend and fellow therapist Dr. Bob Moore (Scott Bakula). When Bob is brutally murdered, Bill finds himself drawn into the investigation—and into the troubled lives of the patients in Bob’s therapy group.
As suspicion falls upon the group, Bill begins a passionate relationship with the mysterious Rose (Jane March). But Rose is hiding secrets of her own, and as the investigation deepens, more bodies appear and Bill discovers that somebody will kill to prevent the truth from being uncovered.
