Behind every great performer there may be someone else who deserves the applause.

Entertainer Bill Miller is convinced that he has everything it takes to become a successful solo star. After separating from his longtime partner, Bill sets out on his own — only to discover that audiences are considerably less impressed than he expected.

His manager suggests adding a comic “stooge” to the act and introduces the wonderfully accident-prone Ted Rogers. Ted becomes Bill’s bumbling sidekick, and almost immediately the act is transformed into a tremendous success.

But while audiences adore Ted, Bill refuses to acknowledge just how important his new partner has become. Ted receives no billing and little recognition, yet remains fiercely loyal to Bill, never realising that he may actually be the real reason people are buying tickets.

Bill’s increasingly selfish behaviour begins to threaten both his career and his marriage. Determined to prove that he can succeed without Ted, he finally dismisses him — only to discover onstage that something vital is missing.

A warm, funny and surprisingly touching Martin and Lewis comedy about friendship, loyalty, show business and learning to share the spotlight.
