Ten years after the end of World War II, three former G.I.s—Ted Riley, Doug Hallerton, and Angie Valentine—keep a promise they made during a wild night of celebration in 1945: to meet again at the same New York bar a decade later. Back then they believed their friendship would last forever, sealing the pact by tearing a dollar bill into three pieces.

But the years have taken them down very different paths. Ted has become a fight promoter mixed up with shady gamblers, Doug is trapped in a high-pressure advertising career and a troubled marriage, and Angie now runs a small hamburger stand in upstate New York, far from the gourmet chef he once dreamed of becoming.

When the three finally reunite, they quickly discover they no longer have much in common. Yet a chance television reunion, a budding romance, and a run-in with dangerous mobsters soon throw them together in the most unexpected way. Packed with memorable songs, lively comedy, and energetic dance numbers, this classic musical proves that even when life pulls friends apart, true friendship can still find its way back.
