After a deadly car bomb explodes on the U.S.–Mexico border, Mexican narcotics investigator Miguel Vargas becomes involved in the case while honeymooning with his new wife. The investigation soon brings him into conflict with legendary police captain Hank Quinlan, a veteran detective whose remarkable record hides a disturbing secret.

As Vargas uncovers evidence of corruption, planted evidence and abuse of power, he finds himself trapped in a dangerous web of deception, violence and betrayal. Meanwhile, his wife becomes the target of ruthless criminals determined to destroy him.
