REPO MAN (1984) is a science fiction black comedy film written and directed by Alex Cox. The film, starring Harry Dean Stanton and Emilio Estevez, follows a young punk rocker who becomes a repo man and gets entangled in a chase for a mysterious Chevrolet Malibu that may have extraterrestrial connections. Made on a low budget, the film was a satire of consumerism and the Atomic Age during the Reagan administration. Despite initial hesitations from the studio, the film was a critical success and has gained a cult following. Its soundtrack, featuring a main theme by Iggy Pop, is a snapshot of 1980s hardcore punk. The film's climax involves a group of competing parties, including government agents and UFO scientists, fighting over the glowing green Malibu. Only an eccentric mechanic can enter the car and fly it through space.
