The Six Million Dollar Man was a popular American science fiction and action adventure television series that ran from 1973 to 1978. It followed the story of former USAF Colonel Steve Austin, portrayed by Lee Majors, who is given bionic implants after being seriously injured in a NASA crash. These implants enhance his strength, speed, and vision, allowing him to work as a secret agent for the fictional U.S. government agency OSI. The series was based on Martin Caidin's novel Cyborg and was adapted into three television movies before becoming a weekly series in 1974. It introduced elements of pop culture such as the opening catchphrase "We can rebuild him; we have the technology" and slow motion action sequences with electronic sound effects. A spin-off series, The Bionic Woman, was created in 1975, and three reunion movies were produced in the late 1980s and 1990s. Despite its popularity, the series ended in 1978.
