In 17th-century Hungary, the ageing Countess Elisabeth Nádasdy makes a horrifying discovery: the blood of young women can temporarily restore her youth and beauty.

Consumed by vanity and desperate to hold back the ravages of time, Elisabeth enlists the aid of her devoted steward Captain Dobi and loyal maid Julie. Assuming the identity of her own young daughter, Ilona, the rejuvenated Countess begins a passionate romance with handsome Lieutenant Imre Toth.

But maintaining her youthful appearance demands an ever-increasing supply of innocent victims. As suspicion grows within the castle and Elisabeth's terrible secret threatens to be exposed, jealousy, obsession and murder lead inexorably towards a bloody and shocking conclusion.
