The Devil at 4 O'Clock is a 1961 American adventure film directed by Mervyn LeRoy and starring Spencer Tracy and Frank Sinatra. Based on the novel of the same name by British writer Max Catto, the film is similar to later disaster films like Krakatoa, East of Java, The Poseidon Adventure, Earthquake, and The Towering Inferno. The plot deals with issues of prejudice, moral dilemmas, and self-sacrifice, as characters are faced with challenges such as age, blindness, disease, and alcoholism. When a small plane carrying three prisoners and a priest lands on the Pacific island of Talua, the island's volcanic eruption forces the group to confront these issues in a fight for survival. With the help of the priest, the prisoners engage in acts of bravery and sacrifice as they try to save the children and staff in a hospital for lepers located near the volcano. Ultimately, their actions demonstrate the strength of human compassion and the power.
