Alex Sternbergen is a once-successful actress whose career and life have been devastated by alcohol. On Thanksgiving morning she awakens in a Los Angeles photographer's apartment beside his bloodied corpse—with absolutely no memory of how she got there or what happened the night before.
Terrified that she may be responsible, Alex attempts to flee the city. Instead, she encounters Turner Kendall, a former police officer who reluctantly becomes involved in her increasingly desperate situation.
When the dead man's body mysteriously reappears and then vanishes, Turner begins to suspect that Alex isn't a murderer at all—she is being deliberately framed. Together they attempt to reconstruct the missing hours and uncover a trail of deception, blackmail and betrayal that leads dangerously close to Alex's own past.
