Blast off into a universe of outrageous adventures, beautiful spacewomen and intergalactic mischief in Space Thing, the outrageous 1968 science-fiction comedy from director Byron Mabe and legendary exploitation producer David F. Friedman. When mild-mannered, socially awkward James Granilla drifts into a fantastic dream, he imagines himself as the fearless Colonel Granilla, a daring space adventurer living in the distant future of 2069. Disguising himself as an alien, Granilla infiltrates the mysterious Terranian spaceship SS Supreme Erection, an extraordinary vessel commanded by the formidable Captain Mother and operated by a crew of seductive spacewomen. His mission is to prevent the spaceship from launching a devastating attack against his home planet, but his heroic intentions soon become hopelessly entangled in a succession of romantic encounters, bizarre situations and increasingly ridiculous adventures. As Granilla attempts to outwit the ship's commanding officers and navigate the temptations of its glamorous female crew, his supposedly dangerous mission descends into a wildly unpredictable mixture of science-fiction fantasy, risqué humour and psychedelic 1960s excess. With an unexpected landing on an asteroid and the threat of destruction looming over the alien vessel, the unlikely space hero must somehow survive the chaos and complete his mission. Featuring colourful costumes, imaginative low-budget special effects, outrageous dialogue and plenty of cheeky adult humour, Space Thing is an unforgettable example of the anything-goes spirit of late-1960s exploitation filmmaking.
