At the luxurious Starliner Towers outside Montreal, a horrifying medical experiment has gone disastrously wrong. A genetically engineered parasite designed to replace failing human organs instead unleashes its hosts’ most primitive and uncontrollable urges.

As physician Dr. Roger St. Luc investigates a series of increasingly disturbing incidents, the infection rapidly spreads through the apartment complex. With residents turning violently against one another and escape becoming increasingly difficult, St. Luc must discover the truth behind the experiment before the outbreak reaches the outside world.

Written and directed by David Cronenberg, Shivers is an unsettling early example of the filmmaker’s trademark combination of science fiction, psychological horror and body horror.
