The film, The Mosquito Coast (1986), is an American drama directed by Peter Weir and featuring Harrison Ford, Helen Mirren, Andre Gregory, and River Phoenix. It is an adaptation of the 1981 novel by Paul Theroux and follows a family's journey to find a simpler life in the jungles of Central America. However, their idyllic paradise becomes a dystopia as their father's erratic and aggressive behavior takes over. The movie was filmed in Georgia, Maryland, and Belize and tells the story of Allie Fox, a disillusioned inventor who believes a nuclear war is imminent due to American greed. This belief leads him to leave the United States with his family and start a new life in the jungle. Despite his best efforts to create a utopian civilization, things quickly spiral out of control, causing a divide between Allie and Reverend Spellgood, a missionary who tries to convert the locals.
