When outspoken television star June "George" Buckridge (Beryl Reid) learns that her beloved character on Britain's most popular television serial is about to be written out, her carefully constructed world begins to unravel.
Behind the scenes, June's fiery temper, self-destructive behaviour and troubled relationship with her much younger companion, Alice "Childie" McNaught, threaten to destroy everything she has left. As ambitious BBC executive Mrs. Croft enters their lives, loyalties are tested, emotions boil over and June is forced to confront the painful reality that both her career and personal life may be slipping beyond her control.
