A roadside breakdown becomes a terrifying fight for survival.

Three high-school teachers are travelling across California’s desolate Antelope Valley on their way to a baseball game when car trouble forces them to stop at an isolated junkyard. With no owner in sight, what initially appears to be an inconvenient delay quickly becomes a nightmare.

Their search for help is interrupted by the arrival of Charlie Tibbs, a volatile young killer travelling with his girlfriend Judy. Armed and dangerous, Charlie takes the stranded teachers hostage and orders them to repair their car so that he and Judy can continue their murderous journey.

As Charlie subjects his captives to an increasingly vicious campaign of intimidation and violence, the teachers desperately search for an opportunity to escape. But in the scorching isolation of the junkyard, every attempt to resist carries deadly consequences.

Inspired by the real-life crimes of Charles Starkweather, The Sadist is a stark, claustrophobic 1963 thriller featuring Arch Hall Jr. in one of his most memorable performances. The film is also notable for the striking black-and-white photography of Vilmos Zsigmond, who would later become an Academy Award-winning cinematographer.
