The Flesh and the Fiends (also known as Mania or The Fiendish Ghouls) is a 1960 British horror film directed by John Gilling and starring Peter Cushing, June Laverick, and Donald Pleasence. It is based on the true case of Burke and Hare, who notoriously murdered and sold their victims' bodies for anatomical research. Set in 19th-century Edinburgh, the film follows Dr. Robert Knox, a respected anatomist who relies on "Resurrection men" to procure cadavers for his lectures and research. Things take a dark turn as his assistant and a young student uncover the truth behind the fresh bodies, leading to a gripping climax and a haunting revelation for Dr. Knox. With a professional and objective tone, the film explores the ethical dilemmas and brutal realities of medical advancement in the past.
