Starring Gene Hackman and directed by Arthur Penn, the film has been hailed as a modern noir classic and received critical attention after its home release. Hackman delivers a powerful performance as Moseby, a character who serves as a commentary on the post-1968, post-Watergate era. Full of twists and turns, the plot involves Moseby's investigation into a teenage girl's disappearance, his wife's affair, and a series of murders.
