I NEVER SANG FOR MY FATHER is a 1970 American drama film that follows the struggles of a widowed college professor who must make difficult decisions about his aging father's care. Starring Melvyn Douglas, Gene Hackman, Dorothy Stickney, Estelle Parsons, and Elizabeth Hubbard, this movie was produced and directed by Gilbert Cates. It was adapted from a 1968 Broadway play by Robert Anderson and received three Academy Award nominations. Despite his father's domineering ways, Gene finds comfort in the arms of his girlfriend Norma, but his world is turned upside down when his mother suffers a heart attack and Tom's health begins to decline. As the tensions between Gene, Tom, and Gene's sister Alice rise, Gene must make a choice about his future and his relationship with his father.
