A DELIGHTFUL CLASSIC COMEDY FROM METRO-GOLDWYN-MAYER!
Set on the beautiful island of Okinawa shortly after the Second World War, this charming and hilarious comedy stars Marlon Brando, Glenn Ford and Machiko Kyō in a wonderfully entertaining tale of cultural misunderstandings and military misadventures.
Captain Fisby (Glenn Ford) is assigned the seemingly straightforward task of introducing American customs and democracy to the inhabitants of a small Okinawan village. However, with the assistance of his mischievous interpreter Sakini (Marlon Brando), Fisby soon discovers that the villagers have very different ideas about progress.
Instead of building the school demanded by his commanding officer, Colonel Purdy (Paul Ford), the villagers persuade Fisby to help them construct a traditional teahouse, assisted by the beautiful Lotus Blossom (Machiko Kyō). Before long, Fisby finds himself embracing local traditions, encouraging unusual business ventures and turning military regulations upside down.
When an army psychiatrist (Eddie Albert) arrives to investigate, he too falls under the village's irresistible charm. But with the furious Colonel Purdy preparing to intervene, can Fisby save the teahouse and his newfound friends?
Filled with colourful characters, witty dialogue and delightful comic situations, The Teahouse of the August Moon is a much-loved MGM classic that celebrates friendship, understanding and the amusing consequences of two very different cultures coming together.
