When decorated Civil War hero John Benedict (William Holden) returns home to his Colorado ranch, he finds his world shattered. His wife and children have been brutally murdered in what appears to be a Comanche raid—but the attack was led by a mysterious white outlaw with a deadly secret.

Consumed by grief and driven by vengeance, Benedict crosses the Mexican border to assemble an unlikely posse of six hardened convicts, each with a violent past and little reason to trust one another.
