MURDER, MYSTERY, ROMANCE... AND A WHOLE LOT OF LAUGHS!
Goldie Hawn and Chevy Chase team up for this hugely entertaining 1978 romantic comedy thriller, written and directed by Colin Higgins.
Recently divorced San Francisco librarian Gloria Mundy (Goldie Hawn) thinks her life could use a little excitement – but she gets considerably more than she bargained for after giving a lift to a mysterious stranger. Before disappearing, he leaves her with a seemingly innocent packet of cigarettes containing a secret roll of film and a chilling warning.
Suddenly Gloria is plunged into a bizarre conspiracy involving murder, kidnapping, mysterious assassins and a sinister plot reaching far beyond anything she could have imagined. Unfortunately, every time something extraordinary happens, the evidence mysteriously disappears – leaving everyone convinced that Gloria's imagination is running wild.
Enter handsome police detective Tony Carlson (Chevy Chase), who gradually realises that Gloria really is in danger. Together they race across San Francisco trying to unravel the mystery before an audacious assassination plot can be carried out.
Along the way they encounter an unforgettable collection of eccentric characters, including Dudley Moore as the hilariously overconfident Stanley Tibbets and Burgess Meredith as Gloria's resourceful landlord, Mr. Hennessy.
Mixing romance, mystery, slapstick comedy and Hitchcock-style suspense, Foul Play is a wonderfully entertaining comedy caper packed with memorable characters, outrageous situations and a spectacular race-against-time finale.
The film received seven Golden Globe nominations, while its theme song, “Ready to Take a Chance Again,” received an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Song.
