Sidney Poitier stars in a tense and powerful crime drama of political conflict, loyalty and forbidden love.
Former U.S. Army lieutenant Jason Higgs (Sidney Poitier) has become involved in a militant revolutionary movement during the turbulent late 1960s. Determined to raise money to help imprisoned members of the cause, Jason leads a daring payroll robbery — but the operation goes disastrously wrong.
Wounded and desperately trying to stay one step ahead of the police, Jason is forced into hiding as an intensive manhunt closes in around him. His greatest ally is Cathy Ellis (Joanna Shimkus), a compassionate social worker whose devotion to Jason develops into a deeply personal and dangerous love.
As Jason's condition worsens and the authorities tighten their net, Cathy risks everything to protect him, leading them both towards an increasingly desperate confrontation with an uncertain future.
Loosely inspired by F. L. Green's novel Odd Man Out, The Lost Man combines crime, romance and social commentary in a compelling late-1960s drama, anchored by a commanding performance from Sidney Poitier.
