Kirk Douglas stars as the legendary Ulysses, King of Ithaca, in this spectacular Technicolor adventure inspired by Homer’s immortal Odyssey.
Ten years after leaving for the Trojan War, Ulysses has still not returned home. His faithful wife Penelope (Silvana Mangano) is surrounded by ambitious suitors, led by the ruthless Antinous (Anthony Quinn), all determined to claim her hand and the throne of Ithaca.
Meanwhile, a shipwrecked stranger is discovered on the shores of Phaeacia with no memory of who he is. As his past slowly returns, he remembers an extraordinary voyage filled with danger and temptation: his terrifying encounter with the Cyclops Polyphemus, the irresistible song of the Sirens, the enchantments of the beautiful sorceress Circe, and the wrath of Neptune.
At last, Ulysses must find his way back to Ithaca, where he returns in disguise and prepares for a final confrontation with the men who have invaded his palace and threatened his family.
A colourful, action-packed screen adaptation of one of the greatest adventures in classical mythology, Ulysses combines romance, fantasy, monsters, battles and heroic spectacle.
